EETC accredits Washington County Community College in state of Maine

In an effort to increase the amount of service technicians for the outdoor power equipment (OPE) industry, the Equipment & Engine Training Council (EETC) recently accredited Washington County Community College (WCCC) in Calais, Maine.

WCCC trains students in its Powersports/Small Engine technician program to become professional technicians through a combination of theory and hands-on experience. Graduating students receive a certificate and are also required to complete testing with Briggs & Stratton, Stihl and other manufacturers. Top students often find many employment opportunities as service techs, as well as parts, sales, setup or rental personnel. Some even start their own businesses.

“We are very excited to become an accredited training program with the EETC,” said WCCC Instructor Greg Johnson. “Building a strong personal relationship with manufacturers and industry associations like Kohler, Briggs & Stratton, Stihl, Hydro-Gear and EETC can only help our students become more successful when they graduate and move into their chosen profession of the power equipment industry.”

Visiting WCCC for its onsite audit was Erik Sides, executive director, EETC. “I am very impressed with the program and facilities at WCCC,” said Sides. “Students that complete the Powersports/Small Engine technician program will be well qualified to work in the outdoor power equipment or powersports industry.”

The Equipment & Engine Training Council is a non-profit professional association that is addressing the critical shortage of service technicians through its school accreditation and EETC technician certification programs. The EETC is a member in good standing of the National Certification Commission. To learn more about the EETC, visit its website at www.eetc.org.
